Teaching Music to Children

Learning music at a young age is as important as learning math, languages, science, and other school subjects. Teaching music to children affects the growth of their brain academically, emotionally, physically and spiritually! Moreover, according to some research, when playing music, the child uses both sides of his brain, which affects positively all areas of his development.

You might often hear your four-year-old child making rhythms with spoons, pots, pans, toys, etc. This might make you wonder if it is time to enroll him in a music class and if he can handle it at this young age. You should know that when your child can handle concentrating for half an hour, he can start his music lessons!

Why teaching music to children is important?

Research has shown that learning music at a young age influences the child positively in various ways:

  • It has a positive impact on children’s cognitive skills such as spatial reasoning and memory.

  • It gives the child a bigger ability to assimilate reading and math when they start school.

  • It teaches the children how to focus and have control on their bodies.

  • It lets the children play better with others and improves their self-esteem.

You should know that it is normal for a four-year-old child to not being able to remember the music lesson for more than five minutes after it ends. This is why it is your role as a parent to take notes from your child’s teacher and follow up with your child until the next lesson. You should also remember that it isn’t an easy job at all, but it is a necessity to your child’s development process! So, choose a music class for your little child and don’t forget to praise him every time he practices at home and makes progress; this will encourage him to work harder!
