Summer Craft: Footprints in the Sand

Do you want to keep a special souvenir from your days at the beach and capture that moment of walking barefoot on the sand? This special craft is perfect for this!

Go to the beach and take with you:

  • Plaster of Paris

  • A small bucket

  • Water

  • A string

First of all, choose the best sand to make your moulds; the hard-packed sand near the water’s edge works best. Let your child press both feet into the sand; the prints should be ½ inch to 2 inches deep. Mix the plaster as per the package’s directions then pour it into the footprints. To make hangers, tie a knot about a half-inch from each end of the string. As the plaster begins to harden, push the knotted ends into the plaster and let it dry. After 20 to 25 minutes gently dig the footprints out of the moulds and brush away the excess of sand. Leave the special footprints for an hour in the sun to harden then feel free to hand them in your child’s room to remember the special summer days.
