First Time Dad



Pregnant women go through a range of emotions during pregnancy and childbirth and so do "dads". It is totally normal to feel terrified, astonished and unsure specifically if it is your first time. Over the last 20 years, the role of a father during labor and delivery has shifted dramatically. Dads are now expected to be present with their spouses during labor. Childbirth classes, information, and skills learned throughout pregnancy are essential for all men who plan to attend their baby's delivery. Along All of this, fathers should try to meet other fathers who are going through the same thing. Don't be embarrassed or shy to seek assistance. Your role as a supportive spouse to your wife is critical at every stage.


Here are some suggestions for how you might help your partner through pregnancy and childbirth:

  • Attend all prenatal appointments with her. This will allow you to get to know the personnel who will be caring for her and the baby during the birthing process.

  • Read and review all resources relating to the topic. Inquire with her doctor about delivery classes and discuss any concern with your partner.

  • Assist with all aspects of the baby's preparations. Shop with Your wife and get the baby's room ready.

  • Assist your partner in staying healthy during pregnancy. Encourage her to exercise, eat plenty of vegetables, and drink plenty of water.

  • Assist her in packing her suitcase for the hospital.

  • During labor and delivery, be present, encourage, and support your spouse. Keep an eye on her at all times.

  • Participate in the delivery. You might be permitted to cut the umbilical cord. It's a fantastic way to start connecting with your baby!

  • Encourage your spouse to breastfeeding
